Public shaming

I saw from the internet yesterday a public challenge of a private individual for a government agency to handle an issue about public safety.  I also saw an individual venting out frustration about paying a 3rd of his wages to taxes and still almost conned by the government to pay customs taxes over personal books he bought over online.  Another,  was a hit and run accident with a fortunate plate number noted with the cars make and model.  Most of the recommendations for action is public shaming,  taking pictures of the issue,  making a note and posting thru social media.  

I have heard about,  "if its not on facebook,  it didn't happen."  But this is going too far and pathetic.  "I won't get my service, my justice and my due, if i don't make it a social media issue?"  Public shaming IS actually a form of cyber bullying from a very exhausted individual who had tried the process and still didn't get his due.  

For some callous institutions and companies who are so used to giving the bad service,  you know who you are government, air transport, telco, etc.  providing the name of the individual should be the next step,  tagging his personal account like "hey,  individual of company name,  can you assist us on this?"  especially if the tags came from celebrity or a close associate.  Or a very straightforward picture-of-sinner-doing-sin,-naming-him-and-posting-on-social-media action works everytime. 

We calm down if we get them sacked, reprimanded, demoted or slapped with penalties.  But at the end of the day,  what really happened to.. Just doing our jobs? 

Gender tags

Yesterday my daughter had an assignment in science,  it was a sr. Nursery discussion about gender as symbolized by the clothes they wear.  Check if the article of clothing is for girls and cross if the articles of clothing are for boys.  

I had to balance reality and the function of the assignment,  generic dresses, floral panties and clear cut hair accessories for girls are easy to tag,  but the shirts, shorts, pants and shoes that are not dainty i had to clarify as "for boys" with the definition of "what daddy can wear" since i myself tend to be more comfortable with the boys set shirt, pants, boots when going to the office and shirt, short combo at home.  

I am glad that J is having the same comfort playing and moving about dresses and shirts and pants. I prefer the later and rarely go around with the former.  So i am actually cross dresser but it is a non issue because i am a woman and i am straight.  Hurray for feminists before me that paved the way.  

In this day and age of Caitlyn Jenner,   Veejay Floresca-Valkyrie,  pink dinosaur#inmyshoes issues,  i am not sure if these curriculum would be enough for the millenials,  i am not sure if this kind of tagging develops these labels that this society is now kind of boiling over from,  crossdressing policy,  gender equality, gender acceptance, SOGIE. 

If however calm acceptance has been reached, there is still issues of morality and correctness that has to be settled.   Let us say the deviance is because there is a need to pursue a personal need for happiness, that morality and facing the maker is individual.  Accept.   But let's not hate the moralist reminders,  the followers of the manual of life,  because there are still happiness sought in the straight and narrow,  leave them be.  Also there should be acceptance toward the non accepting.  It is their happiness. Accept.  

Show of Hands : An independent cinema tool that make every fan a patron

It’s really awesome watching your favorite actors and actresses tug at your emotions while you escape reality in an hour or so in the cool, dark sanctuary of big screens. Many of us have fallen in love with the mainstream movies, most especially because the ones who make them up are the famous guys in the entertainment industry.

But here’s something different Filipinos must learn to embrace too.

Indie films produced in the Philippines are already garnering praises from people around the globe for bringing home international awards. No wonder, the people behind these small films possess world class talents that fellow Filipinos deserve to witness, and appreciate.

Apparently, the people who venture on this industry are motivated by passion. Indie films add richness to the art and culture of the country where it originated. It doesn’t only serve as entertainment, but can be also used as a learning tool for everyone.

 

An Innovation out of Passion

Driven by love for the art and science of filmmaking, a passionate industry volunteer externalized a brilliant idea into something that seeks more productivity. Out of this, the website Show of Hands (www.showofhandsph.com) has been born.

Show of hands is a website that can be used as a tool by independent filmmakers to promote their works by regularly updating their target audience about the necessary details of screenings such as the venue, dates, timeslots, and tickets.

This latest innovation goes beyond simple promotion. It can be a great help in establishing and increasing a filmmaker’s target audience. It can also encourage sponsors to support a film project and eventually translate the work into a money-making product for a sustainable industry.  Thus, even small productions bring home the bacon.

This is my passion project and it needs your help and support. It has been a candidate for feature in The Sparks Project a crowd funding platform that supports filipino ideas. Because indie films are not that as popular as the mainstream movies, not too many people are watching them. However, there might be a large number out there, who may really want to witness the art but don’t know where, when, and how to access them. Plus, they don’t know who to ask about it.

repair, warranty, sourcing and other gadget hacks from Greenhills

I just revived a year old almost bricked tablet unit from greenhills and i am grateful,  i didn't get a reciept from repair but i would like to think that his verbal warranty of 6 months with same defect he would keep.  That is the Greenhills handshake.

Backstory :  i purchased this branded but not a known IT brand of tablet from a kiosk shop in SM,  with receipts and a committed one year warranty.  I was enticed by the specs and planned to use it since i will be handing over the tablet i was using to my daughter which had officially lower specs.  Quad core, large internal hd memory, extn sd,  hdmi output and otg capability,  all i wanted for a work/home unit so i wont need to lag my laptop daily as it will read my working file usbs for those quick at home office requirements as well as ably handling presentations thru ppts with a projector.

The unit was working well at first until i put in some dAta and apps.  One part of the screen was not responding,  like a person who had a stroke.  I worked around this limitation by doing some steering wheel moves when handling apps just to avoid the screen stroke hot spots.  I tried downloading some diagnostics but it wasnt happening.  I tried calling the service center from the warranty card,  not happening. Checked the internet about reviews and possible contacts from my old industry network but they say,  even the stores i check that most stores have been pulling out the brand's stocks because of lack of technical support.  Oh, wow thank you for that information.  I went to their social media page and it was so filled with complaints about service that people were begging them to return back their units from repair,  and others return their money.  My tablet i realize was a lemon among lemons.  

So i just kept with my steering wheel method until another tragedy,  it wouldn't mount the memory.  So all the data i have in the internal memory plus the useful apps can't be accessed.  I had to decide to which super basic app should i install to processor memory to keep the useful essence of the electronic wall clock i am left with. 

Then one day it just does not go past the brand, or welcome screen.  Like a "finger" that reminds you that they duped you big time.  It was still on warranty but i gave up on this unit and the brand since the "stroke."

Legit, illegit.  

The negotiations, a covenant.  I have sent my unit to other shops before but i will immediately pull out if they have guesstimate prognoses.  Having been a googler of things,  i also have researched and toyed with the idea of, as googles and forums suggested,  replace the rom myself.. But there was this caveat of this having a possibility of bricking the unit if surge or some other reason of booting malfunction would happen.  The repair guy said it like a ransom unpaid,  you have 50/50 chances,  if the unit gets bricked,  you need not pay.  We waited for a while patiently for the process while checking on prices of brand new grays and second hand phone units,  after a while,  with the assurance of the neighboring shops that our unit would be in safe hands we mustered the courage of leaving the unit, no return or release slips,  no downpayments, no names or numbers exchanged.. We went around the arcades  surveying generic and look alike cases of branded premium priced Items.  In the stalls you see their cheaper lookalikes while in authorized stores you can see where they copied the designs for about ten times  of the price.  In one compound, the originals and the generic copies harmoniously get along,  each having a niche market, all shopping in greenhills.  When we came back my tablet is ready, payments exchanged.  No receipts no warranty certificates,  just a name next time i'd have trouble.  Jeff.

I never had this experience of living life in a community, not that our community is a perfect place to do this but this is the first time i had work, school (daughter's) home in one baranggay.  In primary school thru high school, it was 2 municipalities and maybe 15 baranggays apart living in philam talon 2, las pinas and studying in la huerta paranaque.  Later in college was worst living in las pinas and studying in espana, manila... During the time of flyover constructions that made my commute a good 2 hours (or more more)  1 way.  Office for a while was also las pinas-makati, mandaluyong-qc, qc-makati and i had some moments of home office that was actually more travelling than staying at home.  Today i have my office so near that the gps circle would touch the tip of the office door when i am at home in my bedroom.  About 150 steps away just because the entrace of the compound is than farther my house that the actual office is.

My daughters school,  initially was a bit further (1000 +- steps)  but we transfered her to somewhere about 200 steps away from home too. 

And oh i soo love the feeling i get when i see fb posts of friends ranting about being stuck in traffic.  Schadenfreude. Give me some slack i had my share of  some stuck-in-traffic dues. 

I recommend this, btw,  because it releases a person from the stress of travel,  and don't you underestimate the ruin it brings in the natural wear and tear of your body and mind.

I am a veteran of several slex sleep and wake up and you are still there overnight marathons, a veteran of thigh high waters where your balloon skirt will look like a lotus leaf while wading the waters... Uggghhh.    i had a moment when i was pregnant that the taxi would not proceed to home and leave me to the nearest dry area because there were water buildup and there's nothing anybody can do.   Imagine?  Now wipe you smile.  Schadenfreude. 

Today i am on standby because we are doing a surprise party operation for a colleague,  i want to be there but i have to bring my daughter to VAcation Bible School and my husband has a meeting to discuss work shifts so i am tagged in 2 venues.  I am done with bring J to school and the colleague is not yet in the office so i am here at home having the breakfast that i missed preparing for J. 

weekends are supposed to be restdays right?

Violator :  I love my life,  this is just me ranting.

For the rest of the universe,  weekend is rest.  For momwantopreneur like me,  it is a blob of time where you have to mix family and projects together because it is the only time you can.

Thank God for the likes of Spotify and YouTube that I do not need to refresh as often for music but still would need to do it for offline moments when we go out.  Again for the screen time debate,  I employ the help of technology for my sanity but would try to program the things she watches,  I prefer this than watching from cable because I can develop age and skill appropriate videos/ instructionals.

I usually do not want to work on weekends,  plus would not do a sunday work for money activity (sorry harsh description,)  house work ok.  i often try honor that commitment,  but the weekend saturday work-for-your-own-company load is becoming to be more frequent than i wish.  I am just glad i do not have work on saturdays and i can do the tasks close to my family or along with family life.  

and on a monday,  is the only time i will sort out the receipts,  the loose change that is all over my bag,  take out the ketchup and barbecue sauce packets from my personal bag (that i now mix use as J’s diaper bag because i mess up with forgetting my wallet, gadgets, house keys and other stuff i want to use out of home if i change bags so all my weekend life in a bag i remove on mondays.  Likewise reminds me i had a good and fun weekend with family.  

Coworking@CoLab

Everytime I had a meeting back in the early 2000.  People always ask me where my office is,  I always tell them in jest that we have 256 branches nationwide.  It was a home-office setup for me for almost 3 years for ASUS Ph.  I being the sole local representative would have my official address in one of our showrooms but process meetups in coffeeshops near my home.  That was telecommuting in the era of the early millennium.  Yesterday,  i was invited to a gathering of like minds who want to change the world one idea at a time.   The Spark Project, a Philippine focused crowdfunding platform had its meeting in Co.Lab, a coworking space near the CBD Ortigas.  (3 Brixton St. Kapitolyo, Pasig -- paces after ACE Water Spa)  It was such a solution I needed then,  solutions for comfortable workspaces especially for me who wants to move and walk around while thinking (this is a new discovery about myself while doing my Jawbone steps moments.)  for fast wi-fi (well internet then since most laptops i lug around needed RJ 11 connections) conducive to work environments.   

Co.Lab gave us seating options in their communal area depending on your preference.  Bar stool, executive, or comfortable sofa.  Their tables are the conference room versions where you can easily plug in for juice without the need to bend or crawl.  The walls are glass surfaces encouraging you to write your venns and project your gantts.  They also have meeting cub holes for the intimate type of meetings.  

Free coffee.

Coworking spaces,  a concept for the work telecommuters, freelancers and “manylancers”, where golden handshakes  are sealed.  

I want to go back to this lifestyle,  i am too tied up on my desk. Unshackle me.

Entering contests

What’s with contests that require major efforts to enter the competition?  How can a dreamer like me who do not have posse working for them,  like everyone just needs a researcher,  grant writer, logo and layout design maker,  video producers on their beck and call because these contest just would ask for a whole universe of things.

Like i am just a mom who even if I have friends and network that could help me with your requirement kits I can’t meet.  I have a day job and a “take-care-of-daughter” shift so can’t a "describe your idea” thing be enough?

You tell me to USE MY IMAGINATION.  Why can’t you use yours?

Ok, I am done with my rant back to section 57.. using alibata,  explain the process on how you will gain your market computed in the exponent of pi…nyeeh.

Deadlines, deadlines.

It feels like high school again.  Deadlines and assignment left and right.

At one point the adrenaline gets me going.  Personal deadlines along with office and passion project deadlines.   Who signed me up for this? 

My old screenwriting groupie encouraged me to try to send something to one of the yearly festivals.   I initially was not into doing anything creative as my work and my current passion projects are mostly strategic,  creativity just by means of interface, visuals and titles.  I thought i would not have the energy to muster a hundred pages of script for a full length.  Remembering some pre-worked ideas set aside to good timing and inspiration,  i got my something and processed an update and finally had an entry.  I even added a weekly serial entry that was initially an app project of mine and now became a tv concept.  Call that multi platform.  Call that convergence.

To my dismay,  the deadline was a pussyfoot,  it said initially April 30 with a balikbayan load full of requirements and then at the last minute it moved the deadline to June.  I can boldly rant about it in behalf of the people who beat deadline.  Nice.

Then last i found a deadline for proposals that my web app project fits deadline May 15,  but i got hooked by the idea that they will feedback on the 17th.  How about that?  It is a crowdfunding platform and this is my first for this platform and just the second funding proposal for this project (missed the cut the first time :().  I scrambled to put up the needed information to build my entry.  I still have a hard time in developing these kinds of proposals, a newbie of 1 online miss, 1 face to face greenlight that fell flat during negotiations.. Huh..Long story..). that is why i still haven't found my funding match.

Another cinema festival deadline is coming i will unabashedly resubmit my full length concept.  This is better than my works lying around my hard disks without an eyeball with anyone but me.  That is so wrong about me.  I write but I don't share,  not that I am sure that what I write is worth anybody's while but I think this is my resolve.  So now i go ahead at least for this season,  I will submit stuff from the baul.  

At the same day of this deadline,  will be a deadline set by festival number 1 for me to complete more, more, more requirements to my balikdbayan box of an entry.  Like what?  That ream thick of an entry still had lacking items!!!

Universe hear me roar. 

Update : May 17,  i just got a mail that my proposal for the web app is ok to proceed to phase 2.   Just need to meet with them on Wednesday and submit a bunch of stuff for May 22. 

baby curriculum

 baby seems to be stuck watching television. scared about possibilities of milestone lateness i tried to make a hopefully balanced schedule for my baby during this month 8 to 12.

i feel guilty that i could not keep my eye on the daily life of my baby, mommy has to be at the office most of her awake time.

I feel guilt being aware of what is happening yet, i can't do anything about it.  My co-parent help is addicted to telenovelas and anything on the tube.  I have to maintain contentment and allow one of her vices to keep her happy, and keep her services.  I just have to believe that the happiness that surround my child is worth a lot more than irritated and shoved in mentoring from an unsatisfied guardian.

I could only suggest and guide her how i want her to rear my child when I am away.  My heart aches, but i see my baby happy,  i'll just have to do the tutorials doubletime on weekends.

Unmitten

My baby just grows oh so fast. Today we are getting rid of her mittens, she has outgrown scratching her face. Plus we realize that BBB is developing her feet and toes farther ahead than her clasped all day hands and fingers. She's had limited discoveries about holding, grasping and just plain feeling because her hand is all-gloved up. She does that with her feet -- curling her toes around our fingers everytime we touch her. I once teased baby that her foot is her hand, and her mittens her shoes.

So good bye mittens.

BBB learns so fast. This weekend she is starting on "open-close."

Been on the net since 1994 and have been in most social network, chatrooms and sites that would have at least a handful of my contacts irc rooms, msn, icq, yahoo, hi5, 6 degrees..

I tried and stayed at multiply since it has the easiest album upload back in 2007, life updates were user friendly. I was doing events and projects that I wanted to share then. No facebooks then, friendster and myspace were king..

But the friendster network became unfriendly when the world migrated to facebook, and myspace more for the multimedia artist than for me, multiply has the good mix of friendster's social interaction, flickr's photo album, yahoo's chat interactions with its message boards, tagging, video and more.. has been resilient to pass obsolescence. I maintain other blogsites, a website, fb but still i kept or at least visit my multiply site until now, i still see friends update or mirror update from their main site to multiply but most of the dynamism is brought about by the selling activity in the site. Online catalogs, merchandise displays from the album facility of the site.. these activities have been keeping my interest in multiply then and now. On-line selling has been infused in the multiply vein, hehe talamak even if this activity was a violation of the rules that one clicks as EULA when you open an account. Actually, I have had a good amount of purchases through multiply.

Multiply has not just showed resilience, it is even reinventing itself.

Yesterday, i went to a gathering of hobbyists at the Secret Fresh Gallery at the RONAC Art Center sponsored by multiply. Multiply showed their new arsenal for e-commerce encouraging entrepreneurship for this League of Hobbyist, how to cash in their passion for comics, toy collectibles and artworks by display selling their wares and the rest will follow.

Multiply's updated platform actually compromised their initial EULA in an "if-you-can't-beat-them-join-them" manner. They realized that in South East Asia, heavy on the Philippines, they have the largest unofficial merchant listing, ka-ching ka-ching! They went to them to dialogue, asked for some wish list and made the network buyer and seller friendly.

the gas blog

Baby tummy was too hard, she cries on regular intervals. Poor BBB, i can hear her discomfort from her mouth and butt. Burps and farts. In times like these, we need a juicy :)

1. Induce burps every 5 minutes, even if its in between feedings.
2. Head should be higher than tummy to avoid reflux.
3. Massage the tummy.. I do this while humming a tune for timing. Gently massage from ribcage to tummy to diaper using alternate hands. Then move the knees to touch the tummy/ chest with the same tune. Massage again the tummy in a circular clockwise motion. And another session of knees to tummy/ chest.
4. let her rest on her left slide.. remember our pregnant days, this is the best position even for baby. It assist gravit to keep the liquids down.
5. Supervised tummy time, i have a 1 month old child who still does not have much neck control. She sometimes get too comfortable with her tummy pressed while her mouth and butt that airflow becomes easier.
Just a caveat, stomach sleeping can increase the possibility of SIDS on infants, the Amercan AAP recommends back sleeping.
6. And the manzanilla, tried it once, scared actually of possible skin irritation for baby so I used it super thinly on her tummy and applied more of it on the back of my elbow so if the chamomile properties really calm, she'll get aromatherapy.

*I've read yesterday from a homeschool blog that a mom read to her baby daily since week 2 and regretted not to have started from day 1 since her baby was on NICU. I didn't have much access on 0 year baby books but I have my collection of Dr. Seuss.

google parenting

My hubby and I are both youngest in the family, never had a chance to experience newborns in the house so we are totally clueless with a lot of baby facts. I have been looking for the "what to expect" book version of the first year since this book has been my companion during my expectant months. My hubby got me another first year book but it still is not the same. I haven't seen one yet so the net has been my primary resource.

earlier i was doing a bit of refreshing my baby, dabbed a moist washcloth over his head and got some 5 hair strands.. hair fall?? wahhh

two days ago, baby had a bout of gas, was thinking can i allow her to stomach sleep? manzanilla, what are the myths and facts?

my baby had major muta manisfestation on one eye. what to do?

now, i am so interested in 0-6mos home school curriculum..

I am offered some confident parenting solutions through forums and articles.. or else I'll be txting, calling, chatting my mom and siblings about their opinion. yey technology.

breastfeeding woes

i really was planning a 100% breastfeeding pact with my daughter, so the initial days were really a struggle to find the latch and find the most comfortable hold to keep up with the minutes of mealtime with baby. nakakangalay!

one has to really be patient, healthy and passionate about the "advocacy." first few
days, my baby developed a frustrated effort to latch on my breast, trying to shoot her mouth to my nipple like a pecking bird.. cute becomes angry when she just could not catch me.. i feel so guilty and inadequate when she cries her face red especially during the start of our session when my milk was not yet flowing.. now everytime i see that frustrated face, i try not to add to the frustration (milk supply might get affected with emote.) and laugh it off.. i just smile when i guide her face to my nipple.. smiling to see how cute my little angry bird's face

when she finally lands.. :)

i want to say i couldn't bear it anymore, but that would be underestimating the power of my body who can bear major changes and major pains, this should just be peanuts.

but my bleep hurts and my bleep hurts, my back and my sides..
my tummy is actually not connected to me yet, yet it hurts
my ego hurts because i still look pregnant.. :(
